Tennessee’s Samara Cyn is certainly growing into her own as an artist, but that’s not to say she’s totally at peace. On her new single “Chrome,” she approaches the disillusions of the music industry head-on, composed but bubbling beneath the service. In contrast to her nonchalant delivery, Cyn writes earnestly about the internal conflicts she’s discovered on her rise as one of today’s most promising artists and considers what it means to be successful on her own terms. The track opens with a news dispatch interview of a woman who is awaken in her sleep to her surroundings being on fire - the analogy isn’t hard to track, and Cyn illustrates her alarm in the verses to come. “When you connected to a dream you’d die for / Start doing things to get to finish even in the shadow / No thing as flawless as seams,” she postures, her expression plain and pointed. You’re not meant to misconstrue her sentiment.
“I wrote this song after a somewhat heated discussion about the reality of making art at a high level in today’s culture,” Cyn divulges about the track. “The balance (or maybe battle) between true authenticity and being able to translate to a large amount of people. How much are you willing to give to be apart of it all? Or to convince people that you’re worth looking at or hearing. Or do you even have to? This song is about giving away the last of you in a desire to so badly be apart of something and then getting there to realize it never even existed in the way you thought. Sometimes we’re the ones that make up this idea of what we should be and then blame it on externals."
“Chrome” displays Samara Cyn’s harrowing perspective and deft writing that has sparked her acclaim. Along with receiving attention from publications - she was named one of the Best New Artists of 2024 by Pigeons and Planes - she has caught the attention of music industry heavyweights who share in her wariness of the big machine. The single was produced by ultra-accomplished producer D’Mile and TDE veteran Isaiah Rashad welcomed Cyn as the opening performer on his recent Cilvia Demo 10 Year Anniversary Tour. “Chrome” is Cyn’s fourth release this year, following prior singles “Katana,” “Magnolia Rain,” and “Moving Day,” all in anticipation of her debut EP, The Drive Home, scheduled for later this year. While it can be difficult to predict Samara Cyn’s next move, it's always understood that she will be playing by her own rules.
