While 2021 has had some of the biggest artists in the world dropping projects, the most gravitating music has come from underground artists such as ToBy. You can think of any genre of music, and it is probably in the Miami native’s debut album, L’espirit. One minute he brings a bombastic sounding, JPEGMAFIA-inspired beat in songs such as “2FUKKINCOCKY” or “Are We Ridin,” and then he takes a 180 and brings together masterful indie-pop sounding tracks, such as “Boyfriend” or “Ghost.” I can’t forget about the intro, “Let It Go - Winter,” that kicks starts the album the right way with him rapping his butt off.

He brings these wide variety of sounds together to make an overall, cohesive and quite frankly, beautiful project. It’s experimental and takes many twists and turns, but I love that. Every song felt refreshing and had me on the edge of my seat wondering if I should take a bat and start smashing things in my room or grab my keys and take my car for a chill night drive.

ToBy proved with this project that there are no limits with his sound, and that he couldn’t care less about making a basic mainstream project. He’s got the vocals and creativity to keep pushing a different sound, and maybe eventually, change the landscape of music as we know it.
