Experimenting Has Gone Exactly To Plan For Brent de la Cruz On "Soft Words"

Riley Furey

"Soft Words" is coming off the back of Brent’s most experimental track to date, and he continues on that same trend by delivering us a sound that I have never heard before. Achieving that is increasingly hard to do in this day and age where everyone is an artist, but by keeping mainly to himself Brent has managed to build some of the most eccentric and tantalizing soundscapes and really created a world of his own.

The song itself is driven by an emotion, and it almost feels like that emotion is a free flowing spirit that seeks to find every genre and sound that it possibly can in order to express itself. "Soft Words" has moments of distorted screaming, peaceful synths, kick drum patterns, and pure pop heaven all tied into a genre that is hard to define using only words.

On the day of its release, "Soft Words" secured Brent’s first ever New Music Friday placement, as well as a spot on the highly followed playlist Lorem. I think it goes to show that after years of perfecting his craft that he is finally getting the flowers that he deserves. Brent de la Cruz is a once in a generation kind of artist who will always keep you on your toes, and I for one can’t wait to see what he follows this one up with next.
