Walmart and Kanye West have recently entered a trademark battle over logo similarities with their respective brands. Walmart filed a formal complaint with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on April 21st, 2021 after the Yeezy brand created a logo that was supposedly too similar to Walmart’s. Yeezy filed this design on January 3rd, 2020 – the logo is a sun that is made up of eight three-dotted black spokes. It looks extremely similar to Walmart’s logo, which is made up of six lines that resembles a sun.

Both logos are the same color, yellow as well. Walmart is apparently worried about their consumers confusing the Yeezy brand for theirs and reported that they do not want the Yeezy logo to damage their relationships with brands they currently work with.

Walmart has not released much to the public surrounding this matter: they did, however, release a letter that they issued to the Yeezy brand’s lawyers. In order to proceed, Walmart must file a Notice of Opposition against the Yeezy brand.
