Welcome to my “Producer Picks” series where I will highlight producers every week that are bursting onto the scene with big placements and huge moments in the underground and mainstream. As a producer myself, I recognize the importance of giving them the credit where it is due – as the production makes or breaks a song or album.
I have been following Bosley for awhile now, and when I saw he produced six songs on Trippie Redd’s recent album, MANSION MUSIK, I couldn’t help but smile. Trippie came through with 25 songs full of braggadocious beats executive produced by Chief Keef, which is evident by the glo beats and Young Chop 2012 inspired sound that plays throughout. Bosley played a big role in this project helping make the beats for the intro, “MANSION MUSIK,” “DARK BROTHERHOOD,” featuring Lil Baby, “FREE RIO,” “KRZY TRAIN,” featuring Travis Scott, “TOILET WATER,” featuring Ski Mask The Slump God, and finally, “SWAG LIKE OHIO PT. 2,” featuring Lil B. The Maryland producer has also produced for the likes of Kankan and BIGBABYGUCCI.
New York’s Ice Spice has become a sensation in the last few months with the release of her breakout single, “Munch (Feelin’ U).” She recently released her debut EP, Like..? which was executive produced by RIOTUSA, the mastermind behind the entire project. RIOTUSA has also previously worked with BIGBABYGUCCI and is only getting started in what looks to be a long career for the producer and rapper.
Loesoe has been one of the main innovators of the new wave underground hip-hop today, as he produced one of Trippie Redd’s biggest hits, “Miss The Rage.” Based out of the Netherlands, Loesoe played a big role in Trippie’s album, producing five songs which include, “PSYCHO,” featuring Future, “FULLY LOADED,” featuring Future and Lil Baby, “GOODFELLAS,” featuring Nardo Wick, “WHO ELSE!,” featuring Rich The Kid, and “HIDEOUT,” featuring Fijimacintosh. He has also also produced the major hit, “Futsal Shuffle 2020” by Lil Uzi Vert and continues to innovate hip hop alongside his collective, “Hyperpop.”
One of my favorite underground artists right now is easily BIGBABYGUCCI, and a large part of that is because of the innovative production he always sings and raps over. Netherlands based producer, Sapjer, is responsible for many of my favorite tracks by BIGBABYGUCCI, and he was present for three tracks on BIGBABYGUCCI’s recent project, Homesick. He worked on the intro track, “Pour Up,” "Sick- Remix" with 2KBABY, and the outro, “Diamonds From Sierra Leone, Pt. 2.”
The production on BIGBABYGUCCI’s, Homesick is so dynamic – which is why it is all over this list. The producer collective Splitmind all did their thing on this project, but Kiri Gerbs’ production on this one is next level. Gerbs produced “Bank Account,” “Count Up / Sign Here,” “Belly of the Beast,” and “Bad Habits.” He is a wizard on the guitar and his infectious melodies play a huge role on why this project is great.
