If you’ve heard NOT THE MAIN CHARACTERS before then you’ll know what to expect. If you haven’t, then you are in for a real treat. Think Spice Girls meet the ever-astounding world that is hyperpop. Formed at Berklee College of Music, the all-female group consisting of Gabi Gotts, Perrin Xthona, and Tammy Gonzalez initially found success on TikTok before releasing their infectious tongue-in-cheek sound. The group have been relentless, delivering nine releases in the last year with their 2021 single "murder party’" already clocking at just over 3.5 million streams on Spotify alone.

But unlike The Spice Girls, this girl group has an exciting edge to them, one that is not afraid to push the boundary both lyrically and sonically. Their latest single ‘8ball’ is a glitchy electro-pop track that finds the group exploring themes of drug use and pool parties. Their facetious lyricism makes this song all the more enjoyable – “I should pray…But God’s not with me today” which is then followed by the energetic chorus where they sing “8 ball, chose this life for, this life for me.”

NOT THE MAIN CHARACTERS' music perfectly encapsulates life of a Gen Z and their news ingle is simply another display of their artistic brilliance and fearlessness.
