Toronto artist George Walter has released his second single of 2022, bordering on self-patronization in an evaluation of a relationship turned sour. “If I’m what she calls me, then I’m the worst,” Walter laments on the chorus, not in agreement with the sentiment but acknowledging its relevance. Not the most dynamic vocalist, Walter instead utilizes the emotive qualities of his voice to express his sorrows. Best categorized as indie rock, the musical environment of the track is complimentary to the narrative and performance, the final product being greater than the sum of its parts.

Walter was aided in songwriting by Verzache, an artist of similar sound and overall trajectory. This cosign via partnership only further propels Walter’s career, this being a classic case of talent recognizing talent. “I’m the Worst” follows prior single “Don’t Hesitate” as Walter looks to build momentum heading into summer. Marketing himself in his Instagram bio as a “maker of straight heat & approachable guy,” George Walter is an easy person to root for and even easier to listen to.
