Bakar - "Pit stop"

Welcome to volume nine of my producer picks where I pick underrated producers that produced the hottest tracks of the week or songs that I think deserve more praise. Here are five producers I am highlighting this week:

Beach Noise: "Pit stop" – Bakar

One of the most unique and eccentric voices right now is back with his second release of 2023 with “Pit stop.” Bakar never fails to amaze me with his lowkey tone and dreamy atmosphere he brings on every track he makes. This track has a groovy acoustic feel with punchy drums that none other than Beach Noise is responsible for. The production trio of Matt Schaeffer, Johnny Kosich, Jake Kosich also produced Bakar’s biggest song to date, “Hell N Back” along with songs off of Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers by Kendrick Lamar and The Melodic Blue by Baby Keem. They continue to reinvent the wheel with music, and I look forward to hearing more music with their work on it.

John Gotit: MAD – EST Gee

EST Gee dropped one of his most versatile projects to date with MAD, and it has been in heavy rotation since it was released. With off-kilter singing over beautiful keys and guitars and being able to turn around and do some menacing rapping is something not a lot of artists are able to do. John Gotitt is heavily responsible for a lot of EST Gee’s catalog, and it seems like the pair continue to level up with each project. Gotit produced 10 out of the 14 tracks on this album which makes sense as to why the project is so cohesive. Gotit has produced for the likes of Lil Baby, Moneybagg Yo, and Yo Gotti to name a few.

GeoVocals:  "Flu Game" – Lil Mosey

Lil Mosey is back with his first release of the year, “Flu Game,” and the beat on this one is fantastic. The melody features haunting keys with hypnotic topline vocal chops that are topped off with a smooth drum bounce and lively 808s. GeoVocals, who did my favorite parts of the track, the vocal chops, is one of the most unique producers in the game. She releases exclusive vocal chops to the public and has worked with some of the biggest artists in the world such as Lil Baby and Rod Wave because of these chops. I think more producers need to take advantage of what they are good at and market themselves in a unique way like GeoVocals does. It has helped her get an edge, and she has built an impressive catalog because of this.

FWDSLXSH:  "Fatal Attraction" – 6lack

We are finally getting the long-awaited 6lack album, Since I Have A Lover, and he has been giving his fans an appetizer with and slew of singles with his most recent being, “Fatal Attraction.” This is my favorite of his four so far, and I love the vintage sounding keys and ambient synths that float throughout the background and the groovy drums that add to the atmospheric tone of the song. FWDSLXSH has produced a few of my favorite songs of 6lack such as “Never Know” and “Sorry.” He also produced the two other lead singles, “Since I Have A Lover” and “Talkback.” He has also worked with Lil Nas X, PARTYNEXTDOOR, and blackbear.

Levi Bandito: Keed Talk To ‘Em 2 – Lil Keed

Lil Keed’s posthumous album, Keed Talk To ‘Em 2 just released, and the legacy he is going to leave behind will be remembered forever. This album specifically features some of his best flows, most cohesive bars, and versatile beats to date. Levi Bandito produced four tracks on this album, and each beat he produces encapsulates what made Keed so special — his ability to rap and sing in any pocket. Starting with “Get Money” which is an uptempo synth-laden banger that features Trippie Redd and is full of animation. A few tracks later, we get a more versatile cut from Keed with “Can’t Fall Victim.” Bandito also produced “Lost My Trust,” which features Cordae and “Think About It.” This project highlights Keed’s duality and it couldn't have been done without the help of producers such as Levi Bandito.
